The UCT Frankfurt-Marburg

Our Philosophy, Our Goals

Our multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists at the University Cancer Center Frankfurt-Marburg (UCT Frankfurt-Marburg) work hand-in-hand towards a common goal: we are here to provide our patients with the best possible cancer care available. As an educational and research institution, our patients benefit directly from our involvement in translational and clinical research, our commitment to sustain high-quality education and professional training programs as well as our network of healthcare professionals and treatment facilities located within the region. In a move to secure interdisciplinary research-driven patient care throughout all cancer treatment stages, we have unified our organizational structures and procedures across all three hospital locations. Mastering this task is a major challenge, which is met at UCT Frankfurt-Marburg through combined expertise and reaching common goals:

  • We deliver the best possible patient- and family-centered care, which is achieved by upholding standardized guidelines for diagnostics, treatment and follow-up care as well as providing support and palliative care services according to guidelines that are in force across all locations.
  • We develop internationally competitive programs in translational research and combine our efforts in growing our portfolio of clinical trials. We are intensifying work in basic, translational and clinical research and coordinate these research activities across all three consortium sites.
  • We are committed to developing educational programs that educate and keep health care professionals current in order to provide our patients with the highest-quality, professional patient care. Through our programs for young scientists, we prepare the next generation of scientists in oncology.
  • We continue to build on our extensive network of regional partners in order to provide the best treatment possible in adherence to the guidelines for all cancer patients in Hessen. By upholding these measures, we ensure that all cancer patients have access to and benefit from advanced comprehensive oncological care, from basic research to sophisticated treatment strategies.

Organization

The UCT Frankfurt-Marburg serves as the coordinating center for interdisciplinary cancer treatment, clinical and translational research as well as education and training in cancer care. We also coordinate and collaborate with an extensive network of experts working in cancer therapy and research. At three hospital locations, our specialty care clinics and institutes work collaboratively in prevention, diagnostics, therapy and follow-up care for patients and their families. Our goal is to provide the best available care through all treatment stages, continuously improve treatment options, and improve patient quality of life.

Certification

The UCT Frankfurt-Marburg's expertise in cancer care is organized into Cancer Centers. At regular intervals, our centers invite various external auditors in to help us measure the quality of our work and how well our inpatient and outpatient cancer treatment facilities cooperate. Our goal is to maintain patient care at a consistently high level and continuously improve our work. The cancer care centers at the UCT Frankfurt-Marburg are audited and certified along the three-phase model run by the German Cancer Society and the German Cancer Aid:

The Organ Cancer Centers specialize in treating one organ. The Oncology Centers coordinate the Organ Cancer Centers and ensure effective collaboration amongst the various disciplines across all hospital sites and departments, from the pharmacy and support services to tumor documentation. The Oncology Center of Excellence award in Germany is given exclusively to university institutions that, in addition to providing outstanding patient care, are committed to developing new therapeutic strategies and conducting outstanding cancer research.

In addition, we obtain accreditation for some of the UCT Frankfurt-Marburg’s facilities through various other independent accrediting institutions. For example, the stem cell transplantation units of the Carreras Leukemia Center at the University Hospital Marburg as well as the Department of Medicine II, Hematology/Oncology, and the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the University Hospital Frankfurt are certified by JACIE.
